Thanks to the Swedish Son of Stone (aka SoS) whose recent lyrics in 28 Summers Left fit me to a T:
“Let’s make something great
Of what is left now
And focus on things
That we have got now.”
In a Camden interview about his unique rather unique song-writing, SoS confided that a theme of his music is “about the will to get back up again when life knocked you down…” Not a bad theme for life – is it?
One longevity study, that I believe to be darned accurate, suggests that with work and luck, I may have 28 summers left in my earthly journey. Note: Do take that private online Living to 100 calculator, PLEASE, to gauge how many summers may be in your healthspan…
So what about your humble scribe and his ~28 summer seasons “left”? What have I got in my queue to keep from being ordinary, and keep from unfocused, well-intended busyness?
Making Something Great
Long ago, I was knocked down by the White House’s decision to reject my application to become a White House Fellow. Just imagine me as a Doris Goodwin, Sanjay Gupta, or Colin Powell colleague?! C’est la vie – yes?
Well, my point is that my application was a great forcing function for where I wanted to head. I offered in one application essay that my headstone should read, “informed and committed He made a difference…” How about that terminal, end-game goal? Perhaps I am 2400 years too late for my true calling as a Stoic for good words and good deeds. Or, perhaps I am just in time to impact peoples’ live in favorable ways as a 21st century Seneca.
